Apple to deploy 1Password to all 123,000 employees, acquisition talks underway

From Jonathan S. Geller at bgr.com:

Apple is planning an interesting partnership and a potential acquisition of AgileBits, maker of the popular password manager 1Password… According to our source, after many months of planning, Apple plans to deploy 1Password internally to all 123,000 employees.

While the details seem somewhat suspect (overheard conversations), this makes total sense to me as a long time user of 1Password. 1Password’s sensibilities are very Apple-like in that it’s very user centric. By comparison, LastPass (which I use for work) feels very Microsoft-like in that its very IT centric. It makes me wonder if this news will lead to other acquisitions given how bundling more sophisticated password management with OSes is a no brainer in this day and age.

Update: Looks like the acquisition is a no-go according to the 1Password Twitter account. That said, I still think there’s something to better password managers being bundled with OSes.
