From Wesley Hilliard at AppleInsider:
An engineer called “Technology Hunter” on Chinese social media site Bilibili attempted to redesign the 24-inch iMac with a uniform display bezel. He moved the chin to the rear of the display, enabling a Studio Display-like bezel.
It’s an impressive mod, without a doubt, but is the resulting design better than the iMac Apple is shipping today? To my eyes, moving the components to the rear of the display is less clearly elegant. Furthermore, it’s obvious the added bump reduces the iMacs range of tilt. What’s less obvious is how this design impacts the iMac’s already poor ergonomics. Regardless of whether you like or hate it, it’s inarguable that the chin raises the display1. By merely removing the chin, “Technology Hunter” also lowered the display. I don’t think a chinless iMac is impossible, but I do think designing a chinless iMac involves a lot more than simply replacing a chin with a bump.

I personally became keenly aware of the ergonomic importance of the iMac’s chin when looking into replacing my 27″ iMac with a MacBook Pro and Studio Display. ↩︎
