As a sucker for all things Mac history related, I couldn’t help but click when Michael Tsai highlighted Andy Hertzfeld’s YouTube channel on his blog. Watching the Frox demo, I had two competing thoughts:
- This is an amazing technology demo for 1990.
- This is a mess of a product demo.
Some like to deride Steve Jobs as being a marketing guy who more-or-less took credit from the engineers, who they saw as the actual inventors. While there’s an argument that more people deserved visible credit while under Jobs, you’re crazy if you think he wasn’t deeply involved in the projects he oversaw. I obviously can’t say for sure, but I’d confidently wager a Frox under Jobs would be either vastly different or canned before it ever saw the light of day.
